Bitter Springs

From Off Road Nevada: The Bitter Springs Back Country Byway is a 28-mile point-to-point trail located near Overton, Nevada and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for scenic driving and is accessible year-round. Four-wheel drive and high clearance vehicles are recommended as road conditions are rough and variable. Normally, the drive takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

This trail take you near Valley of Fire State Park. The 40,000-acre Nevada State Park has 2,000-year-old petroglyphs. Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Park Entrance Fee: $15

Lava Butte Trail

From ONX Maps: Rainbow Gardens and Lava Butte form this loop trail. It is an easy trail suitable for any 4x4 truck or SUV, as well as off road vehicles and mountain bikes. Red, tan, and white hills make up the colorful Rainbow Gardens loop while a dark volcanic ridge forms the Lava Butte side. Views of the Las Vegas valley await at the midpoint section of the trail.

This trail offers spectacular views of the Las Vegas Valley at its midpoint.

Eldorado Trail

From All Trails: Explore this 27.3-mile out-and-back trail near Willow Beach, Arizona. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This trail is great for off-road driving, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

This trail will take you near Lake Mead National Recreation Area, America's first National Recreation Area. The entrance fee to Lake Mead National Recreation Area is $25

Cottonwood Pass

From ONX: Cottonwood Pass runs north and south through the Spring Mountain and Red Rock conservation areas just west of Las Vegas, NV. From Blue Diamond road you can take Cottonwood Pass all the way to Goodsprings, NV. Once you get down there, you may want to stop at the Pioneer Saloon for a good burger or to visit some of the old historic ghost towns.

This trail will take you near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area The entrance fee to Red Rock National Conservation Area is $20 Note: Time entry reservations are required October - May.

Desert Tortoises are safeguarded by the federal Endangered Species Act as a threatened species. This act prohibits any form of disturbance, harm, pursuit, hunting, shooting, injury, killing, trapping, capturing, or collecting of wild desert tortoises.

Best Practices for Desert Tortoise Awareness Among OHV Users

  • Prior to moving your vehicle, check underneath for desert tortoises.
  • If you encounter a desert tortoise in its natural habitat, please refrain from interaction and allow it to remain undisturbed.
  • Capture lasting memories by taking photos of desert tortoises while maintaining a respectful distance.

Thank you for not handling or disturbing desert tortoise.
